Practicing Patience Over Fear (No Fear Part 3)

How can I simply, not be afraid?

If I just say, “I am not afraid,” does it happen? Not really. Instead I must put my #faith and trust in the Lord to take care of the things that cause me fear so that I may let go of the fears that I have. He never fails to help me in my time of need, even if I cannot see it until much later.

(Before we get started, if you are just joining this blog, don't forget to read Part 1 and Part 2 of my "No Fear" series.)

I invite you to read Psalm 27 along with this short study. I am focusing on verses 9-14 today.

“Do not hide Your face from me; Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation.”

He is my help.

My God is not a genie in a bottle that comes to my aid and grants my every whim. He is my sovereign Lord that loves and cares for me, knowing what I need even before I know it myself. He has promised to be my help in times of need and He always is. Though, sometimes I cannot see how He is helping me, I know that I can trust Him to have my best interest in His plan. Sometimes that “help” is a simple whisper, “I am here.” Sometimes, it’s an answered prayer or blessing I didn’t expect. Then, there are times I never saw the help but I realize later that when I was feeling abandoned, He held me up during the battle and I grew stronger because of it.

“Teach me Your way, O LORD, And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.”

He is my teacher.

It is my daily prayer to ask the Lord to guide my path and prepare my way. I know that He has already done these things but I ask Him again and remind myself that I want to be in His will and not my own, because my own will simply gets me into trouble. *Exaggerated sigh.* I know that the lord hears every pray, even the whispered and silent ones, but I need that daily reminder to seek His will for my life.

#God teaches me patience in the things I have to wait for. He teaches me strength in the things I must endure. If I listen to the lessons he gives my, He teaches me wisdom in times of long suffering and joy in times of #peace. The reality of this world is that it is in a fallen state, so not every lesson I learn is going to be a pleasant one, but the joy of knowing that I am saved and will one day live in the house of the Lord is enough for me.

“Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!”

Wait on the Lord.

Sometimes patience is the hardest lesson to learn. When a situation arises in my life that I want God to resolve quickly, sometimes it’s a chance to grow my faith by allowing me to wait on Him and be patient for His timing. Sometimes we wait months or years to see His answers to our prayers but He always answers. Though I may have to wait a while to see or understand, I can take comfort in knowing that God has already answered my prayers before I even speak the words.

He strengthens me for the #battles ahead as I wait on Him. I know that He has already resolved my problems and His will for my life is set. Embracing His will in the outcome, whatever it may be, allows me to relinquish my fears and find peace in the toughest of times.

It is my prayer, that whatever battles you are faced with today and in the days to come, that you will find rest and peace in the Lord Jesus Christ and let your fears be at rest.
